Sunday's Homily 10/08/17
by Bishop Robert Barron October 08, 2017
Today's readings pose a question: how are we tending the vineyard? We have received so much from God, but are we making the world fruitful? Are we responding to the Lord’s invitation with the works of justice, love, peace, chastity, respect for others? Or are we more or less killing the messengers?

You Are Not Your Own
In today's brief selection from St. Paul's letter to the Romans, we learn, “None of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself. For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord.” This affirms that your life is not about you! It’s about God and God’s purpose for you. It’s about being drawn out of your comfort zone and into the adventurous space of divine mission.

The Procession 09/10/2017
On Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 6:00 p.m., directly after the 5:00 p.m. Mass, the community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Parish, in Scottsdale will celebrate the Procession of the statue of Our Lady of Perpetual Help back to its original home at the Old Adobe Mission (3817 North Brown Avenue). We will depart walking from the main foyer of the church (7655 E. Main St. - see map below) after the Sunday evening Mass heading west on Main, across Miller Rd., turning right onto McKnight, across 75th Street onto First Avenue, across Drinkwater Blvd. into the parking of the Saguaro Hotel, exiting on Buckboard back onto First Avenue, continuing walking west until Brown Avenue where we will turn left (south) until we reach the Old Adobe Mission, the original building of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish.
The Procession has been approved by the City of Scottsdale and will be escorted by two motorcycle police officers, Knights of Columbus, and our Boy Scouts Troop 446. We have received permission by The Saguaro Hotel’s general manager, Mr. Joe Iturri, to cross his property. Traffic to the streets will be temporarily stopped by our police escorts. Total walking time is 30 minutes, about a mile and a half.
Please join us in this very symbolic, old world style procession! Please wear comfortable, walking shoes. Any help that you can offer with the procession is greatly appreciated. And, although the statue is to be transported in the church’s pick-up truck with the community walking behind it, carrying Our Lady out of the church and, upon arrival, into the Old Adobe Mission will require the help of many. A beautiful, historical replica of the high altar has been constructed to welcome Our Lady back home! If you plan to walk in the procession, please contact Gloria Argueso at (602) 618-1189. Please contact Rad Masinelli, (480) 980-3628, if you can help in any way with our procession.
